shops in PenzanceCentral Penzance is an easy town to walk around and there are many shopping streets worth exploring. Penzance town centre is full of character and lacks many of the usual household names that you might expect, being full of many of independent local stores.

However, the extremely popular Wharfside Shopping Centre, located in the heart of Penzance, does contain a selection of chain stores familiar to most. In total, Penzance boasts around 400 different retailers, with most opening seven days a week.

The main shopping street in Penzance is Market Jew Street, which stands between Alverton Street, Greenmarket and the Market Place, and Chyandour Cliff and the town's busy train station. Market Jew Street is split into two main areas, with Upper Market Jew Street, flanked by a large set of shops, Penzance's Post Office, and central Market Jew Street, which features a good selection of shops, including WHSmith. Market Jew Street gradually heads uphill towards the magnificent Market House building, dating back to 1838 and now home to a high street banking branch.

Directly behind the Market House is an area of Penzance, which has become known as the Market Place, where a number of popular shopping streets meet and fashion boutiques can be found. These include both Causewayhead and also the historic Chapel Street, where you will find a huge selection of shopping opportunities, including the Penzance Bookshop, antiques stores, art galleries and furniture shops.

Also of interest along Chapel Street is the eye-catching Egyptian House, the Admiral Benbow restaurant and also the Turk's Head Inn, a historic pub built in the mid-1300s. Much of Chapel Street is dominated by the magnificent 19th-century St. Mary's Church, close to the Quay and the Under Chapel Yard.

Lying along the waterfront and next to Market Street Jew, the Wharfside Shopping Centre features two separate floors and stands next to the Penzance Craft Centre and close to both the train and bus station. The Wharfside Shopping Centre is home to a number of household names, such as Argos, the Body Shop, Game, Iceland, Peacocks and the Thornton chocolate shop. Also available at the shopping centre is a local Farmers' Market, held each Saturday and featuring plenty of local produce and freshly caught seafood.

Outside of this part of Penzance, a branch of the Tesco supermarket will easily fulfil all your food shopping and grocery needs, and is situated along Branwell Lane, in the Chyandour area of town.
